The Etowah people's sense of place wasn't just geographic. It was cosmological, political, embodied, and ancestral all at once. When I first climbed the 125 wooden steps of the Temple mound, it felt less like physical toil and more like an ascent. As I reached the top, I realized this wasn't just elevation—it was a belief shaped in earth.
